POPbottles by Anna Utopia Giordano

Via: HighSnobiety

Check out this interesting new project by Italian illustrator Anna Utopia Giordano. She remixes known alcohol brand bottles with iconic toy brands.

The result is Barbie Vodka, Lego Rum, Fisher Price Whiskey, Nintendo Gin, Disney Champagne and Marvel Martini. I've got to say I think these are pretty sweet and I would definitely buy them if I saw them on a shelf!

Which brings me to my next question...how much does branding influence your purchase?

Drake Performs at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game

Drake performs "Headlines" and "The Motto" at the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, Ontario. Check out the footage below.

I think these songs are tough to preform live, but obviously fans want to hear it. Having said that, I have to be critical and say I think he could've done better. Still a great honor and (I'm sure) more money in the bank for this young superstar.

Jordan Spizike "Bordeaux" Shoes

Via: HighSnobiety

Spike Lee teamed up with Jordan to create this one of a kind Jordan Spizike Bordeaux kicks.  The multicolored crispies are set to release on February 4th, 2012. Earlier this month, Spike presented US President Barack Obama with a pair that came in a custom brown wood box complete with the Presidential seal.

What do you guys think? Is the President cool or tarnished by accepting the Jordans?

Live Leaks: Day 218 [Drew Melton Edition]

Yesterday I had the privilege to meet freelance graphic designer Drew Melton.

Melton, 23 years old  from Grand Rapids, MI, is most famous for his work in typography. He came to my class yesterday (Central Michigan University) to do a short workshop and then did a visiting artist speech at night.

Melton began experimenting with graphic design at the age of 16 during home school. He admitted he had no idea what he was doing, but it interested him. At 18, he decided to go to Kendall College where he would study graphic design. During his college years, Drew was hired for an internship with XXXChurch.com (a website dedicated to help people with porn addiction). They gave him a lot of freedom and allowed him to experiment even more. Melton said XXXChurch was critical to his career because it gave him a lot of networking experience and he met many loyal clients that he still works with today.

3 years later, Melton decided to drop out of Kendall College and pursue a design career in a studio of his own. Although he had accumulated college and credit card debt, Drew Melton somehow opened Justlucky design studio. Justlucky was a design studio with only 3 employees; an illustrator, a photographer, and himself. They did a lot of tee-shirt designs for bands, logos and branding for clients, and other common design jobs.

2 years later Melton closed the doors of Justlucky because he felt "burned out" and "unsatisfied" with the mundane work. Jobless, Melton decided to experiment with work that satisfied his creativity. He put his computer away and began to draw all day, everyday. It was work that "excited" him.

In 2011, The Phraseology Project was born. The Phraseology Project is an online "community event" website that allows people to submit a word or phrase. Then, Melton picks from the phrases and makes a poster using his unique typographic style. What started as an experiment/practice blew Melton up. 6 months into the project big clients such as Toyota contacted Melton to do work in his unique style. He explained that the Phraseology Project had unexpectedly allowed him to "pay the bills" and travel because now new clients wanted his services. 1 year later his website had 99,000 visits and over 20,000 submissions!

The thing that excites me is that Drew is a young entrepreneur who parallels what Master G and I are trying to do. It shows that you don't need a lot of resources to strike big (Melton's office is in his bedroom with only a laptop and scanner) and you can make it with what you have. Additionally, It shows that hard, consistent work really pays off. TheMasterG blog has seen a steady increase in views and support and like Drew said, "People get excited with you if you do cool stuff. Rather than looking at life as a cycle, think of it as a rhythm." Hopefully if you are reading this you will agree. Which brings me to my next point: If you ever want to submit, comment, or help us improve what we do, please don't hesitate to contact us: TheMasterG@YMail.com

For more info/work check out Drew Melton's personal website HERE or the Phraseology Project HERE.

My thoughts: Facebook.com is the NEW E-Harmony

The world we live in today is becoming more and more connected on all levels by one thing: Facebook. Just last night I was watching a television commercial for Windex (yes, the window cleaner) and they took the time out of a thirty-second, million-dollar commercial to include a “Like us on Facebook” plug. It was at that moment when I realized this website has taken over.

Facebook does it all. You can catch up with friends, follow celebrities, promote business, share your creative pages, rant about your feelings, and post pictures of yourself standing in the mirror wearing very little clothing! What’s next? In my opinion, I see Facebook becoming the next big dating website, if it isn’t one already; the NEW E-Harmony.

Think about it, the site already holds every major key that a serious dating website needs: your relationship status, pictures, interests, likes/dislikes, self-bio, age, and job description. I would even argue the site is better fit to pick out a potential special-someone than a traditional dating website because you can simply scroll down a few days on someone’s timeline and start to get an idea of what kind of person you are dealing with before you even meet. Not to mention, it’s FREE.

People I’ve talked to that are against meeting people on Facebook have said they think its “creepy” that a random guy/girl they’ve never met would message them or write on their wall, looking to get to know them more. Why is it creepy? Isn't it the same principle as meeting a stranger at the bar, or at a party? To me it better because you can check out the other person before you even decide to respond or not.

In fact, on the latest episode of Shameless on Showtime, Fiona (played by Emmy Rossum) met up with an old high school crush. Her crush, now married, wanted to rekindle the flame they might have had in high school. He mentions he wouldn't have asked Fiona to meet up for coffee if it wasn't for finding her on Facebook. Interesting!

At 21, I have already found two happy, healthy, long-lasting relationships simply through messaging girls I most likely never would have met any other way.

So what do you think? Is this new wave of Facebook dating a good thing or a bad one?

Akai MPC Fly for iPad

Via: HighSnobiety

Check this sh*t out! Akai developed this portable MPC for the iPad 2. The pads are back lit and the genius swing design makes the MPC super portable (also the MPC doubles as a protective case for your iPad 2).

The MPC Fly works with the MPC Fly iPad app which has a huge library of samples, drum kits, effects (delays, bit crusher, etc.), and the ability to sample from your iPod music library. Dope!

Once you create a song the system allows you to transfer it onto a Mac or PC or upload it to SoundCloud, Facebook, or Twitter.

As of now there is no release date or price, but you will be the first to know on TheMasterG blog! For more info  visit Akai HERE.
