Your Cellphone is a Tracking Device That Lets You Make Calls

Via: BoingBoing

If you own a cellphone you must read this! WikiLeaks hacker Jacob Appelbaum talks cell phone security in this interview:

Appelbaum: Cell phones are tracking devices that make phone calls. It’s sad, but it’s true. Which means software solutions don’t always matter. You can have a secure set of tools on your phone, but it doesn’t change the fact that your phone tracks everywhere you go. And the police can potentially push updates onto your phone that backdoor it and allow it to be turned into a microphone remotely, and do other stuff like that. The police can identify everybody at a protest by bringing in a device called an IMSI catcher. It’s a fake cell phone tower that can be built for 1500 bucks. And once nearby, everybody’s cell phones will automatically jump onto the tower, and if the phone’s unique identifier is exposed, all the police have to do is go to the phone company and ask for their information.

Resnick: So phones are tracking devices. They can also be used for surreptitious recording. Would taking the battery out disable this capability?

Appelbaum: Maybe. But iPhones, for instance, don’t have a removable battery; they power off via the power button. So if I wrote a backdoor for the iPhone, it would play an animation that looked just like a black screen. And then when you pressed the button to turn it back on it would pretend to boot. Just play two videos.

Resnick: And how easy is it to create something like to that?

Appelbaum: There are weaponized toolkits sold by companies like FinFisher that enable breaking into BlackBerries, Android phones, iPhones, Symbian devices and other platforms. And with a single click, say, the police can own a person, and take over her phone.

Moral of the story: Watch what you say.

Chick Beer

Check out the new beer that is literally sweeping the nation in sales.

Chick Beer (creative, right?) is a  new "premium light" beer brewed just with girls in mind, "We are proud to introduce Chick Beer, the only American beer that is created just for women. Chick Beer is a craft-brewed light beer that doesn't taste like a light beer.  The flavor is soft, smooth, and full-bodied.  Yet Chick Beer magically has just 97 calories and 3.5 carbs.

What do you think ladies? Do you like this concept? Personally, I think the package design could use a little help.

Welcome Back: Updates, Mixtape, News!

A note from Master G:

"Dear Friends and Followers,

Its been months, but its feels like longer. The first thing i'd like to say is, Welcome Back! Mr. Matt and I have greatly missed blogging and keeping up with all of you!

We have been hard at work over the past months improving our art through education and lots of practice. We have come a long way in two short years; worked with dozens of artists out of Detroit, preformed at mulitple nightclubs, opened our own recording studio, Matt got accepted into Central Michigan's graphic design program, I got hired as an intern at Rustbelt Studio (owned by the producer of Detroit's own Kid Rock), and somehow we gained a global following that reached over 4,000 viewers a month! We're just getting started...

Our goal in the following months is to blow these achievments out of the water. We are focusing all our efforts into providing you with more music, art, and videos than ever! The purpose behind the blog is to provide a forum not only to show you what we are working on, but show you things we find fun and interesting within the world of Hip-Hop. This website is for you and we want you to interact with it and make it a part of your daily web surfing!

Mixtape News:
January 1st, 2012, I will be releasing my mixtape; B.o.b. [Blunts over Bitches]. You can expect to see artwork, videos, and an interview with me all to drop in the month of December 2011. And who knows, I might just leak a single off the mixtape...

We can't thank you enough for all your continued support as we continue to learn and expand. This is a process and I hope you can see [and hear] our growth. This is an exciting time for us and I genuinely hope if you like what you see [and hear] and that you will spread the word and show this music to your friends and family. We surivive off of word of mouth and for the time being this is still FREE!

Keep checking it with us daily, and get HYPE for what you're about to experience."

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

On this fine day we celebrate the act of protesting racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for MLKJr. Day in King's honor began shortly after his assassination in 1968. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law although it was first observed three years later on January 20th, 1986. Amazingly, it was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

World Population

Here is a good example of a kinetic type animation which basically means mixing moving texts to create an animation.

More importantly the video contains interesting statistics about our world population which is on the verge of reaching 7 billion by the end of 2011. It's not space we need to worry about (7 billion people standing shoulder to shoulder could fit in the city of Los Angeles) it's resources. Watch to understand:

Changing Education Paradigms

Ken Robinson has some very valid points about today's education system.

Why are children "grouped" by age/grade when some are more talented than others in certain fields despite their age?

98% of kindergarten students are considered geniuses in divergent thinking and 5 years later the ability to think divergently exponentially decreases...why? Because they are "educated."

Anaesthetics for children with "ADHD" shuts off their senses and limits their ability to use their imaginative thinking.

IF YOU ONLY WATCH ONE THING THIS WEEK, WATCH THIS! SPREAD THE WORD!

Mission Accomplished

On a serious note, congrats to the 33 miners freed in Chile after being trapped for 69 days in an underground shaft. The miners are truly heroes and displayed an infinite amount of spirit and strength. We wish you guys luck in your future endeavors.

The Great Oil Spill Pt. 2

It is raining oil...

Wow.

The Ultimate Man Cave

Via: Yahoo

How awesome would it be to spend a month in the ultimate "man cave" and get paid?

Pretty awesome. And it is a reality for Australian Adam Santarossa.

Adam is getting paid $2,600 to blog, tweet, watch soccer, & play PS3 for the entire world cup in a gigantic soccer ball.

For his "troubles" Adam gets to keep the laptop, PS3, flat screen TV, and THREE bags full of Adidas sports gear!

I'm jealous...

The Great Oil Spill

The oil spill disaster is a hot topic in current news.

BUT a lot of people haven't witnessed the damage visually...

SO

Here is a picture of a oil-laden wave of the coast of Orange Beach, Alabama (Approx. 90 miles away from the BP oil spill).

NASTY!
